Ultimate Beatdown 13 - Road To Glory

Ultimate Beatdown 13 - Road To Glory

30th November 2013

Johor Bahru's MMA Organisation Goes Big

With A Packed International Night of Fighting

Yet again with our venue at Danga Bay being re-purposed we needed to find a new venue. Step up Johor's KSL City Mall and Resort who offered us their Expo Centre.

My Three Fights of The Night:

Raymen Beh vs Amie Che Yun

Raymen was lacking in both height and reach but as he has shown in previous events he never lacks in heart. For every 5 shots he threw probably four were misses as the height of his opponent and his longer arms proved a tough nut to crack and his opponent was having plenty of success of his own.  But Raymen just kept coming and coming and by the end of round 2 his opponent was looking decidedly ragged, In round 3 Raymen just kept coming like a steam train and Yun ground to a halt as the punches really took their toll. He was finished and Raymen kep landing blows until at 1:38 of the third round the ref had to step in a stop it.
Sabastian Cole vs Mehrdad Malekizadeh

Sure I'm biased he is after all my Son, but I have watched him from when he first started training three years ago at the Ultimate MMA Academy improve and become more dedicated, he spent two months at Team Quest in Chiang Mai this year and his game has improved. He has a long way to go but recently I have been lucky enough to watch him roll with some high levels guys and I can see where he has to improve, but I can also see how much he has improved.
Mehrdad is a muay thai fighter who has spent a good deal of time at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. He got in Sabastians face as the lined up and he leaned back against the fence full of confidence as the fighters were announced. And that confidence looked well placed as a solid opening punch caught Sabastian right from the off. But and this is the difference, he just kept to his plan and covered up taking the opening as soon as it presented itself taking Mehrdad down to the ground around 6 seconds in and from there it was one way traffic as every-time Mehrdad attempted to escape or change position the trapped tightened until at 2:17 he had to tap. Sabastian is still only 17 so has a great deal more time to improve. But for now. I, his Dad and fiercest critic is very pleased with his progress he is very dedicated and it's starting to show.
Kenny Yap vs Kumarasyan Perumal

Yap is a highly rated Malaysian fighter and present MIMMA Flyweight Champion and Kumarasyan is a 1-0 fighter from Singapore who at the last Ultimate Beatdown took just 16 seconds to become a fans favorite with a RNC victory over a fellow Singaporean.
Yap came in bursting with confidence and was I am sure most peoples favorite for this bout. I had seen Kumar rolling with noted BJJ grappler Shane Suzuki at REPS Gym after the UB press conference and I knew he had a lot of skill and long limbs. He was calm and collected and he did not let any aura of confidence that Kenny Yap may have had put him off of his game and he soon set about dismantling the Malaysian champion with superb strikes and non stop aggression that had Yap on the back foot until at 3:05 of round 1 the ref had to step in and save Yap from further damage. A superb showing from Kumarasyan who must be one to watch in the Asian scene. A real up and coming prospect.

A quick after event review and many thanks:

It was a fun night, our first in a new bigger venue and although we had some technical issues I think most people had a good time.
We fell short of my target of 1000 people but it was a big ask considering 2 years ago this event was 50 people in a gym and the last event hit 750 which in itself was a big jump from the previous event. So a solid event with a solid crowd.
We will continue to grow and improve.  Our new cage performed well and I think most people enjoyed themselves.

Thanks especially to our great sponsors: Eight Lido Johor's Best Bar by Far. REPS Fitness, Johor's Top All Purpose Gym for Getting Fit and Fight Training. Arty Party, Johor's premier Art market and chairty event organiser. Muscle Factory Johor's leading supplement supplier. Potosan Corner Kuala Lumpur's premier MMA equipment supplier. What's Going On In Johor Bahru (WGOIJB) the leading facebook resource for those living in or visiting Johor. Ultimate MMA Academy Johor's best Fighters gym. My Teksi the best and safest way to get around - Download the My Teksi app and see the benefits of this great way to get around. No more dodgy driver who wont use the meter or who take you for a longer journey. My Teksi tells you where you taxi is, who the driver is and his contact number, the cab number and the approximate price. It's a great system.
And a massive thank you to KSL City Mall Johor for a great venue and a great support team who made this possible.

Plus of course all the volunteers who really made this possible. Working all day and then coming and working until the early hours of the morning. Great job guys, you rock.

Thanks also to all the gyms who supported the event and brought fans and fighters.
It was great to see Heath Sims and the Evolve Gym who for the first time ever supported our event with their fighters.
Everfitness, Sparta Singapore, Monarchy MMA, Grasio, Elitez, BJJ Singapore, Fight G, Ultimate MMA Academy, HIt, Leverage MMA, Madman, MuayFit, Sparta Singapore, Team Thoo, REPS Fitness, Elitez, Melaka MMA, Penang Top Team, Impact MMA, Evolution MMA, Karabaw, SOS,

Coming of Age: Ultimate Beatdown 10. Heroes and Villans

Ultimate Beatdown 10 - Heroes and Villans

So the music is pumping the crowd are ready and right on cue (Ok an hour late, hey this is Asia) the first fight is ready to go.

Firstly I want to state everybody I met complained about the gate price of Rm 50. The crowd numbers reflect this and although the club eventually filled out nicely, I am not sure it was more people than at the last UB event, and the atmosphere will be reflected in that. Simple maths mean more people in means more beer which means more atmosphere and more food sold and much more fun.
I know of quite a lot of people who wanted to come, but not at that price.
The night started with four Muay Thai bouts to warm the crowd up and then....
- The First MMA Fight
Amir "The Viper" Ghafar (Wangsa Maju MMA) vs Mohd "The Underdog" Fouzien Fozi (Melaka MMA)

RD 1
The Melaka boys are back in a Johor cage and this time they want a winners trophy.

And with an early rear naked choke Mohd Fouzien wins and in some style. Melaka has a win and Fouzien is delighted.
Bout 6
Zeus Lim (Ultimate MMA) vs Farid (Fire Dragon)
Zeus is a big favorite with the Johor fans mainly I am sure due to the fact that he always brings it!
Rd 1
A tough first round with Zeus having a bit of trouble with the judo guy, but remaining calm and working his game from the bottom. He did have to take a lot of punches when he was first taken down but did his work carefully and paitently finishing with a first round submisson due to a leg triangle off of his back.
Bout 7
Chan Nan Kung "Mountain King" (Street Fight Wing Chun) vs Jim "The Beliver" Chong (Korea)
Rd 1
Chan came straight across the cage in that wing chun stance and staright into the action. They soon ended up on the ground and Chong from his back managed to get Kungs arm and tried for a kimura but could not pull it off. Soon Kung mounted Chong and proceeded to ground and pound before taking Chongs back when it was offered and trying to sink in a rear naked choke. He was in full control and it looked like it was just a matter of time, but Chong somehow escaped and they were on their feet, soon enough though, Kung was on top. A few upward kicks from Chong created a bit of space for him and kept Kung at a safe distance.
Rd 2
Immeadiatly they went to the ground again and Chong from on his back managed to get a guilotine in and forced Kung to tap.
Bout 7

Da Gu "Jack Hammer" vs Hafiq "White Tiger" Zahari

Rd 1
Da Gu came out like a whirlwind and soon had Hafiq on his back and it seemed this fight was not going to last long. And yet some how Hafiq managed to roll him and get on top and but Gu kept on him and eventually finished with a guilotine forcing a tap. An impressive display from Da Gu.
Bout 8
Rd 1
Jason “de Cappuccino" vs Fauzie Fay "nextgencrusher"
Fay is a solid musclebound fighter and he looked a lot more physically imposing than his opponent. He soon had Jason down and was laying serious ground and pound, no way Jason would survive this onslaught, these two did not look to be in the same weight class and he continued to ground and pound a blooded Jason who did not want to tap, until Fay went for an armbar and it was all over.
Bout 9

Ejoy "The Mob"Apek (Melaka) vs Ronald Low (Singapore)
Rd 1
Ronald Low caught Ejoy early and took him down taking his back and soon sunk in a rear naked choke forcing him to tap.
Bout 10
Sabastian Cole vs Mok
Mok a judo expert was a bulky looking guy with lots of muscle and he had stepped in on less than two weeks notice after Sunil Raj had pulled out.
Rd 1

Sabastian came in with a flurry of punches took his opponents back and sunk in a standing rear naked choke – he had to hold it for a long time but eventually he forced his opponent to tap in 38 seconds.
Bout 11 The Main Event

Brad "The Vanilla Gorilla" Robinson vs Nik "The Bloodhound" Harris
Rd 1
These two big men were soon shaking the cage as they pounded from one side to the next pushing each other hard. Harris had underhooks and lifted Robinson up and took him down landing on top, but Robinson soon took top position although Harris kept a tight grip on Robinsons neck, it looked tight but eventually Robinson broke free and took top position they were holding each other tight so not much was happening beyond working for position.
No punches were going in and eventually Harris escaped and they were back to standing.
These two were evenly matched and were neutralising each other.
Robinson tried to get Harris's back and took him down but he was straight back up.
Harris got a guillotine in and dragged Robinson to the floor but the bell stopped the move.
Rd 2
It started with a flurry and soon ended up with Harris on his back and Robinson in side control, he managed to get full moment very easily and then set about weakening Harris. Harris could not shake him off and Robinson was looking very comfortable in top position making room to ground and pound but Harris soon pulled him into guard. Robinson was finding it easy to get hooks in and control Harris but he tried to move into side control and then Harris turned him and tried to attack but Robinson soon had him on his back again and was easily controlling the fight.
Rd 3
Harris managed to keep it standing up for the first minute and landed some good punches before it got to the ground but they were soon stood up and and straight into a clinch, and then it went to ground and Harris was on his back, Robinson in side control and in charge again. On the ground Robinson was in control and although not a lot of damage was being done he was dominant.
It went the distance a Unanimous Decision to Brad Robinson.

FULL EVENT RESULTS
And that was it a good nights entertainment.
It was nice to see Peter Davis and Majee Overall both ONE FC fighters coming to support a local Malaysian event.
Thanks to all the fighters and fans for making it a fun evening.
